Suicide Bomber at Funeral

The correct tagline for this headline: At Least One Dead.

Okay, more seriously, 32 people were killed when this bomb went off. I'm sure they were not counting the one who was previously deceased. At the funeral for the nephew of Shiite politician, Ahmed al-Bakka, in Iraq, a bomber came amidst the 100+ mourners. At least 32 were killed and another 42 injured when the bomb went off.

Because Shiites have been targeted by extremist Sunni groups such as al-Qaida in Iraq, led by Jordanian-born terrorist mastermind Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, I'm sure these extremists have already been blamed.

On the other hand, a partner in the largest Sunni Arab political party denounced the attack: “The Islamic Party condemns such ugly acts that are aimed at dividing the country,” said Nassir al-Ani. “The perpetrators want to cause divisions and hinder the political process in Iraq, but they will fail and we will establish a national unity government.”

Thus we have extremists pursuing divisions in Iraq and politicians promoting unity among the groups.

Likely, the average Iraqi citizen couldn't care less as long as the violence doesn't affect them directly. But how can I speak for them--I'm sitting peacefully in my cubicle in America. Americans barely show concern for their own government proceedings. They should care locally before worrying about problems abroad.

That's why I joke, "At Least One Dead at Funeral Bombing."
