Ready for Hurricanes

FEMA is ready for the upcoming hurricane season, so they say. To their benefit, the Department of Homeland Security agree that key changes have been made. On the other hand, independent experts worry that beauracracy is still a huge problem within the organization. (I don't know where they came up with that claim. Government organizations are the most efficient on the planet!) Who is right? Let's see when a hurricane comes.

It's amazing to consider hurricane season starts in just three weeks. June 1 to October 31 is designated as "Hurricane Season," although Tropical Storm Zeta existed from Dec. 30, 2005 - Jan. 6, 2006. We'll see if FEMA makes it through June.

President George W. Bush has a better idea: eliminate hurricanes altogether. "We pray there is no hurricane this coming year, but we are working together to make sure that if there is one, the response will be as efficient as possible," he said. Everyone knows hurricanes will form no matter how much praying is done. Therefore, the "if" should be "when." I suppose, if Bush had his way, he would spend billions on preemptive strikes against Alberto, Beryl, Chris, Debby, and the rest of the potential 2006 hurricanes. Brother Jeb will say, "Don't even think about Florida. We will nuke you." Then George will play hurricane destroyer in his bathtub. And everyone will think less of the President than they already do, if that's possible.

The next presidential election is over two years away, but every presidential hopeful is selecting and advocating his/her stance on the issues--abortion, gay marriage, arctic drilling, etc. I would hate to see hurricanes/weather determine the election results.
